Team Rubber Boots

Where did the name “Rubber Boots Photography” come from?

We both have a bit of an obsession with rubber rain boots. In our eyes, they are adorable and we wish we had a pair in every color. So, when thinking of a name for our company we tried to think of things that we both loved and rubber boots were on the top of our list!

How long have you been practicing photography?

The two of us we have over eight years of experience, but Rubber Boots Photography was officially established in 2011. We are self taught and are always looking for ways to stay up-to-date in photography techniques.

How did you get into photography?

Our journey to photography has many twists and turns over the past couple of years, but it all started when Tammy bought her first camera in high school. Over the years we each began our own obsessions with different genres of photography and became inspired by all of the beautiful images we were seeing. A few years ago we came together to photograph the wedding of two very special friends of ours and ever since then we’ve been hooked! As they say, “the rest is history!”.

How would you describe your style?

“Photography to me is catching a moment which is passing, and which is true” – Jaques-Henri Lartigue

Our main purpose with every session, wedding, and event is to capture the moment. We use a combination of styles such as photojournalism, posed, and editorial to create images that will reflect the personality of our clients. It’s important to us that we get to know our clients, so often we spend time chatting and getting to know you before it’s time to take out the camera. When it comes to editing, we love pops of color combined with soft, romantic tones in our photos.

We are a Nikon family here at Rubber Boots Photography! We have a variety of lenses to help us achieve the shots we are looking for and we are always investigating equipment that can give us interesting effects in our photos. Do you offer engagement sessions with your wedding collections?

YES! We offer an engagement session with all of our wedding collections. We love engagement sessions! Mainly for two reasons:

1. They are a great opportunity for us to get to know you individually and as a couple before the big day. It allows you to get comfortable with us and the camera, as well as see the way you photograph, what you like and what you don’t like. When it comes to the wedding day, you’ll be comfortable in front of the camera and with our shooting style.

2. Your engagement is a wonderful moment in your lives together! Why not capture it with an engagement session?

What is your opinion on seeing each other before the ceremony?

Our opinion is: Whatever makes you comfortable! Each couple is different in their view of seeing each other before the ceremony. To some it’s very important to not see each other and to others it’s not so important. “First Looks” are wonderful if you would prefer to have most of your portraits taken before the ceremony, rather then leaving them for afterwards. It’s a special and emotional moment when you see each other for the first time on your wedding day, and with all our couples we make sure the moment is a quiet and intimate one…even though we’re both there photographing away!

Do you take family and group shots?

Yes! These are usually taken immediately after the ceremony. Even if our couples choose to do first looks, there are always a few family group shots that need to be taken after the ceremony. To ensure that we move through these as efficiently as possible, we ask that family members are told ahead of time to stay after the ceremony for photos. We also ask our couples to provide us with a shot list to make sure we get the group combinations they want. This allows us to finish your group portraits quickly so that we can spend more time with our brides and grooms!

Do you mind others taking photos? How do you handle it if someone gets in the way?

This is a very special day, so of course we do not mind friends and family taking personal photos. Times when we might ask a guest to hold taking photos would be during formal portraits because flashes and lights that are emitted from other cameras can interfere with our shots. As a result, we have to take extra images to work around them and therefore take extra time. Sometimes without realizing it a guest may “get in the way” of an important moment. We always kindly ask guests to hold their shot so we can step in and then we step away to allow friends and family to capture the moment. We always ask to be the only professional photographer at the wedding.

Where can we find you during the reception?

Remember there’s two of us! Which means that one of us will usually be with our couple and the other will be circulating around the reception capturing fun moments between your guests. This allows us to get complete coverage of your wedding reception and one of us will always be near by if you need us for impromptu group shots!
